During the early months of 2023, Chiharu shiota’s exhibition opened in Jakarta. I was moved by her struggles between identity and loss. In one of her interviews after diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she said “I felt my soul was going to seperate from my body ... My daughter was nine years old. How can she survive without a mother?”
In my story, I was the young daughter that went through the loss of a parent. To this day, it is something I could never forget.
As time progresses, I become more serene, but the grief remains and is transformed to a form that lives on forever.
